Ulil Ilzam Apple Developer Academy Application 2025

A BUILDER
FROM THE
INSIDE OUT.

I grew up in a pesantren. I learned to code. I built apps for schools and communities. Now I want to learn how to build for the world's most human-centered platform — and bring those skills back home.

Pesantren Years

I studied at a pesantren in Yogyakarta. Discipline, community, and a deep sense of purpose shaped how I think. I graduated with no computer science background — only a hunger to learn.

2022

First Line of Code

I discovered programming through curiosity. I watched tutorials, read documentation, and started to understand that software was just formalised problem-solving.

2023 — 2025

Learning Flutter, Deeply

Three years of focused learning — Flutter fundamentals, state management, backend integration with Supabase and Firebase. Not building to ship yet, but building to understand.

2025

First Real Products

I shipped Matholek, Ihram App (Play Store & Huawei AppGallery), a restaurant POS system, a community donation platform, and a campus virtual tour. Seeing real people use something I built was the most motivating experience of my life.

2026 — Now

Expanding to the Web

I started learning Vue.js to build for the web. Same problem-solving mindset, a new platform. I want to reach every screen — not just mobile — with products that serve schools and communities.

01

Matholek — Academic Management System

Schools struggle with fragmented communication. I built a unified platform for academic records, attendance, and parent notifications. Lesson: users don't want features; they want peace of mind.

02

Ihram App — Hajj & Umrah Guide

Pilgrims needed guidance without internet access in crowded areas. I built a comprehensive offline-first guide published on Play Store and Huawei AppGallery. Lesson: constraints make you creative.

03

Santap — Restaurant POS

Restaurant staff were writing orders by hand, causing delays and mistakes. A real-time POS with table management and order tracking fixed the problem. Lesson: speed and clarity matter as much as features.

Flutter Realtime Business
04

Infaq Alfatimiyah — Donation Platform

Community donors wanted transparency. I built a crowdfunding platform with real-time tracking and payment integration. Lesson: trust is a design problem, not just an ethical one.

05

UNU Virtual Tour — 360° Campus Explorer

Prospective students couldn't visit campus during the pandemic. An interactive 360° web-based tour gave them a way to explore from home. Lesson: accessibility is not an afterthought.

Human-Centered Design

I understand users, but I want to think like a designer. Challenge-based learning and the Academy's design methodology would help me build more intentional products — ones that anticipate needs, not just respond to them.

SwiftUI & Apple Ecosystem

I want to build native iOS apps — not cross-platform simulations, but apps that feel like they belong on Apple hardware. The Academy is the right place to develop this fluency from first principles.

Collaborative Product Development

I have mostly built alone or in small teams. I want to learn how to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams — designers, engineers, and users together — to create products that are more than the sum of their parts.

Schools & Pesantren

I want to bring the design thinking and iOS development skills I learn back to schools and pesantren in Indonesia — starting with the ones I know. If one school gets a better learning management system, that is one win worth having.

Inspiring the Next Generation

I want to show students from similar backgrounds that it is possible — that coming from a pesantren, from a small city, from anywhere, does not disqualify you from building the future. Representation changes what young people think is possible.

Open Learning

I plan to document and share what I learn publicly — through articles, workshops, and open-source code. Knowledge that stays private doesn't multiply. I want to create resources in Bahasa Indonesia that make Apple development accessible to more people.

Long-Term Community Products

I want to keep building tools for communities that need them — not as freelance projects, but as meaningful products. The technical foundation and product thinking the Academy gives me will make those tools more impactful and more sustainable.

I don't want to just be a developer who builds apps.
I want to be a builder who changes the story of where great technology can come from.
